Ghostly Family Photographs

 Welcome!

I stay pretty busy with my writing, art, and photography, but the past few days, I've taken some time out from the arts to straighten and organize some things that I really needed to get done. While looking through some old papers, I ran across an old photograph that my father had taken of me when I was an infant.

(Becky Arnott Photography)
Photograph of Me with a Cake, Etc.

The photo was of a special occasion, my first birthday, complete with a birthday cake with one candle.

(There were no digital cameras in those days. There were just film cameras, so you really didn't know what your pictures were like until the film was developed.)

Notice all of the white ectoplasm in this photo! I'm sure Daddy didn't realize that it was ectoplasm. He, no doubt, thought that the film had just messed up. Apparently, several spirits were really excited about my first birthday celebration!

I have noticed that several of Daddy's photos had ectoplasm in them. In fact, he was actually a talented spirit photographer! My brother, Nick, and I got that same talent from Daddy.

My husband, Greg, also has that talent which he apparently got from his father. We know at least one photograph which his father took of a family gathering that contained ectoplasm.

One day, a sister-in-law once took a picture of Greg and me standing in front of a haunted mansion, and ectoplasm showed up in the photo. I believe it surprised her since she didn't know that she could take paranormal photos.

You might check out your family, etc. photographs. Some of them might be ghostly! You just never know!

For a book full of paranormal photographs (over 100!), that Nick, Greg, and I took, check out my Kindle book on Amazon, "Photographic Encounters of the Spirit Kind." For more information and to order, please see the widget above.

Intriguing Paranormal Stories

 Welcome!

I have one photograph for you on this blog post today, but the photo is not paranormal because I edited out the paranormal part. The reason for this was to protect the name of the business that was at the top of the building which was where the ectoplasm was! I took three pictures of Greg in front of the building, but this was the only one that had ectoplasm.

The photo above shows Greg having lunch in front of the building that had ectoplasm near the top which is, of course, out of the range of this photo.

Many times the owner of a business doesn't want it to be known that his establishment is haunted for fear that it would scare away any customers, which is understandable. Normally, if the business owner is there, I get permission to use any paranormal photos that I have taken before I publish them. In the case of the picture above, however, the owner was not available since this is a regional chain.

For the rest of this post, I'll tell you paranormal stories that others have told me. They don't have paranormal photos with them either, but they are intriguing, nevertheless.

I recently got an email from our sister-in-law Cris from North Carolina who said she'd been meaning to send me "this little article from our neighborhood website," and that she looks "at that bridge every time we go to town." She said to let her know what I thought about it.

Here's what Cris sent me:

"ghost sightings. My brother in law has been seeing a Confederate Soldier ghost on the bridge over the Reuse River...on Covered Bridge Road. This has happened several times about 12:00 in the afternoon. Anyone else seeing this?" (This incident certainly dispels the idea that ghosts only appear after dark.)

"Echo Forest and Beyond
Yes, we had a ton of paranormal stuff happening on our property. Talked about it to our neighbors and they were having the same thing happening."

"Buffalo Creek
It doesn't surprise me. If you look at the top of the hill...you will see a rock barrier that the soldiers used for cover during battle."

I told Cris that Greg and I would love to come and check out the ghostly goings-on there sometime, that we'd come armed with our cameras.

When we lived in Middle Tennessee, we happened to live next door to a psychic who told us that she once saw a Civil War officer on horseback, riding down our street! In fact, the whole neighborhood where we lived was an old Confederate campground with Civil War artifacts that people often found buried in the ground. No wonder it was haunted!

Earlier in my life, before I met Greg, I dated a guy who told me that when he was going to college in Eastern Virginia, he was driving by a field once when he came upon what looked like a Civil War battle being played out, but it wasn't a re-enactment! It looked real! He said that it had (understandably!) unnerved him, and that he'd never before told anyone else about the incident.

(This was before I was into the paranormal, although ghost stories had always fascinated me. I certainly had no idea then that I had a paranormal photography gift. Had I known more about the paranormal then, I feel that I could have helped him more about what he had witnessed. However, what he said really impressed me. It was something that I filed away in my mind and never forgot.)

The Civil War soldier on the bridge in North Carolina and the Civil War battle in Virginia are both like a movie playing over and over again. It is like they are on film; they are unlike spirits who can at times even interact with the living.

My brother, Nick, emailed me yesterday, telling me that he and his wife, Lisa, had just gotten back from a trip where they visited a huge mansion, parts of which had "very creepy vibes." He said that otherwise they didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. No wonder it was creepy since two murders had taken place in that house. He said that the staff had been instructed not to talk about the murders, and I later found out that the staff was also not to mention that anything paranormal was going on, although there have been several reports of supernatural occurrences there by several witnesses!

However, in Abingdon, Virginia, the staffs of the Martha Washington Inn and The Tavern are not reticent about discussing all of their paranormal phenomena! Just check them out on the Internet!

I really appreciate those that shared their paranormal stories with me so that I could share them with you. You just never know about the paranormal; sometimes you happen to be in the right place at the right time, and you are able see or hear or feel something supernatural, and you may even be lucky enough to catch something strange on camera. You just never know.

There are plenty of paranormal photographs that Greg, Nick, and I have taken, (Greg and Nick also have the gift of paranormal photography.) and stories we have to tell in my book, "Photographic Encounters of the Spirit Kind" which is on Amazon. Please check out my book by clicking the widget above on this blog for more information.

The (Haunted) Tavern

Greg and I recently visited historic Abingdon, Virginia...

The Tavern

which has The Tavern that is the oldest historic building in Abingdon. The Tavern dates back to 1779, and in its long history, it has been many things, an inn, a post office, a private home, a bakery, as well as several other things including a hospital for both Confederate and Union soldiers during the Civil War.

Oh, and did I mention that it was also haunted!

One evening, we stopped by The Tavern for dessert which was delicious...

Key Lime Pie

Afterwards, we got permission to take pictures to see if we could capture any paranormal activity with our cameras.

Before we got started, we talked with our server, Allison, to see if she knew anything about the ghostly goings-on there. She told us some very strange things that had happened to those that worked there-several had been touched, strange noises had been heard (voices, walking), etc. She said that a woman had been murdered in one of the upstairs rooms which was supposed to be the most haunted room in the building.

Also, there is even a video of a chair moving by itself. (There are several great videos on YouTube about The [haunted] Tavern.)

Here are some photographs that Greg and I took:

The photo above is of the room where the murder took place. It is supposed to be the most haunted one in the building, but we found only one orb in this room in the four or five photographs that we took of it. The orb is on the wood to the upper left of the woman in the far right of the photo.

Here's a close-up of that orb-

Orb in the "Most-Haunted Room"

Could this orb (above) be the spirit of the woman who was murdered in this room? Is she watching people as they dine, etc.?

Afterwards, we went into the adjacent room which seemed to have a lot more paranormal activity going on, at least for that night.

I took about four pictures in that room, and they were all blurred, which shows that something, like paranormal activity, was interfering with my camera!

Here's the best photo of the bunch in that room-

A few of these anomalies are actually lights on the walls and reflections, but some of these show ghostly activity. For example, notice the ectoplasm in the bottom left corner and the strange-looking orb near the center of the photo.

Close-up of the Strange-Looking Orb

We concluded that this room was the most haunted one that we photographed at The Tavern. We found out later that the Civil War hospital was upstairs which, we think, contributed to much of the paranormal activity in this room.

As we were leaving the upstairs, to go back down, Greg snapped this photo of the stairway-

Notice the small violet bit of ectoplasm to the left of the steps. Violet is a very spiritual color.

Yes, Greg and I will have to agree, The Tavern is definitely haunted!

Why don't you check it out for yourself!

For more on the paranormal, I've written a book, "Photographic Encounters of the Spirit Kind" in which I show many photographs that Greg, other people, and I have taken of many different places, including Europe, of paranormal activity.

Large Orbs, and a Ghostly Handyman?

Welcome!

First of all, I have two really intriguing spirit photographs to show you that my sister-in-law Cris sent to me.

Here is the first one-

Several years ago, Cris's friend took a picture (above) of Cris, two llamas, and several orbs on a cold night in the snow. A couple of the orbs are rather large.

Her picture-taker friend has a gift for taking spirit photographs just as Cris herself does, as evidenced by another photograph she sent me-

This is a photo that Cris took of a large family reunion and a large orb! To the left of the orb in the center is another faint orb.

Spirits seem to be drawn to places where there are special gatherings of people like at reunions, churches, parties, holidays, etc.

Thanks, Cris, for sending these great photographs of orbs!

Although I don't have any spirit photographs to show of my own this month (which is unusual for me!), I do have a personal spirit story to tell, that just happened today!

Late this afternoon, Greg and I went to our storage building which is behind our house. I don't often go there with Greg, but there was something I wanted to put in there while he looked for something he needed.

As he turned the door knob, he said that he had noticed for the past week that the door knob to the building wasn't loose any more, that it was like a handyman had come by and fixed it, although no one had. He was so desperate for an answer that he even asked me if I had fixed it. (Now that's funny! Ha, ha!)

He even theorized that the cold weather might have tightened it up!

He had thought about fixing it himself, but wasn't quite sure how to do it, so he'd put off working on it. Also, he's been busy working on other, more pressing projects lately.

Then, we looked at each other, and had to be honest with ourselves about how the door knob got fixed-The man who had lived in our house, and had expertly built the cabin on our property, and had died a few months ago, apparently had put his skill to work on "his" doorknob! He either just loves doing that type of work or he saw a need and fixed it or he has finally accepted us, and decided to help us out!

Now, if he would just go upstairs in our house and do some work on a couple of unfinished rooms, (We're having to wait for a carpenter to come and do some work.) we'd be even happier and more appreciative!

Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Is Fall Creek Falls State Park Haunted?

Welcome!

On 7/7/19, I wrote a blog post about Greg's and my visit to Fall Creek Falls State Park in Tennessee on my other blog, "The Art of Positive Living." Everything went well. We had a wonderful visit to the park, and all seemed normal-until we analyzed some of the pictures we had taken!

This is perhaps the best one to show you what I mean!

Why all of the orbs? One can only guess, unless you are a psychic. Greg and I do have a psychic ability or a "gift" as one psychiatrist once told me to take paranormal photos, but we don't know how to interpret the photos we have taken. We leave that to other types of psychics who have the ability to do so.

My guess is that the orbs in this photo are due to the deaths of animals, birds, and fish or perhaps even people who might have drowned here.

For more paranormal, ghostly photos, be sure to check out my book on Amazon, "Photographic Encounters of the Spirit Kind" by Becky Arnott.

Christmas Spirits

Welcome!

Last Sunday I published a blog post entitled "The Christmas Spirit" (12/10/17) on my "The Art of Positive Living" blog www.theartofpositiveliving.blogspot.com .

However, today, I'm writing a post on this "Spirit Photographs" blog entitled "Christmas Spirits" because of a photo I took last weekend while visiting historic Franklin, Tennessee which, I believe, is not only a very old town, but it is also a very haunted one!

I took some pictures of different Christmas decorations that I thought I might use on my "The Art of Positive Living" blog sometime, but, after I looked at the shots I had taken, I decided they should be on this "Spirit Photographs" blog instead!

I liked the decorations going up the steps,

and I decided to get a closer shot of the decorations on the door which offered a big surprise upon closer examination-

The lower part of the door was covered in ectoplasm!

I would guess that the owners of this house have had some ghostly problems from the looks of this photo!

Earlier that day, I had taken some photos of an old graveyard which I thought might turn out to be paranormal, but nothing at all showed up, so I just deleted those. Little did I know that just taking pictures of Christmas decorations would produce something supernatural when I least expected it!

Spirits can be anywhere, however; they don't just inhabit graveyards.

For much more about the paranormal, you might enjoy my book, "Photographic Encounters of the Spirit Kind," which is available now in paperback or as a kindle download.

This would make a nice, unique Christmas gift for any lover of the supernatural!

Supernatural Cats

Welcome!

Greg and I don't have to go very far to take spirit photos. In fact, we can get plenty of paranormal pictures right around and even in our own house! This blog post mostly deals with cats and the supernatural!

Since "a picture is worth a thousand words," here are two photos that say it all!-

This is the back of our house. I was taking a picture of it to compare its size to the size of Greg's elephant ears plant, but I didn't know there would be ectoplasm in the windows! In fact, there is an image of a ghostly cat's head in the window on the upper right of our house where our cats' room is located!

Speaking of cats, here's a picture of our Kallie, surrounded by orbs!

This is the photo I took of Kallie which I briefly mentioned in my last "Spirit Photographs" blog post (9/16/17). Here, our cat is looking at our neighbor's cat which is outside, and if they ever got together, the fur would fly! With all of that energy, no wonder there are so many orbs! It could even be that the spirits in our house have gathered to watch the furry confrontation.

In my book, "Photographic Encounters of the Spirit Kind," there are over 100 of Greg's and my paranormal photographs which gifted Tennessee psychic Elaine Watson (now deceased) so expertly interpreted. Our kitties, Kallie and Mitzi, are featured in several of those photos.

"Photographic Encounters of the Spirit Kind" is available now, either in paperback or as a kindle download.

Be sure to get in on the Halloween fun during the next few days.

Besides trick-or-treating, there are lots of neat things going on around the country.

-WKRN, Nashville, will present "Haunted Tennessee" this Thursday, October 26. Last year's haunted subjects are featured on WKRN's website.

-For all of us "Munsters" fans, there will be a "The Munsters" marathon on Cozi TV this Saturday, October 28.

-There's a "Creepy Hollow Haunted Woods" event in Spring Hill, Tennessee that you might want to check out since it is a well-done production that has been rated "very scary."

-Also, on October 28, there will be a paranormal Halloween investigation at Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill, Tennessee where you just might see a real ghost!

-Weather.com has "American Super/Natural" videos from 2014 which are weather-related true tales of the supernatural. These are well-done, quite good, and creepy!

Happy Halloween!

Unnerved by the Paranormal

Welcome!

I said I'd be back writing a blog post today, and I try to be a person of my word, but this post will be brief  due to my nerves, caused by what Greg and I believe is a subtle but relentless attack on us by some paranormal force here in our house.

A strange event happened a couple weeks ago which makes me believe this is true.  One night, we had an ice/snow storm which, of course, made the roads treacherous, so much so that Greg couldn't get home from work.  That meant that I had to spend the night in our house by myself which is not something I like to do.  I decided I'd just stay up all night until Greg got home.

All went well until around 3:15 AM.  At that time, I was in the kitchen with our two cats when all of a sudden, I heard a loud sound, like a thud, in our living room.  I bravely (with weak knees) walked through our dining room to our dark living room and switched on a light.  I quickly looked around and noticed that a plaque on our mantel (which had been sitting there in that spot for a long time) was lying flat on the top of the mantel.  That explained the loud noise.  I guess that with a little effort, a spirit in-the-know could easily push that plaque down.

Wooden Plaque on Mantle

After all, that was a perfect time to manipulate an object.  Here it was, 3:00 AM, prime time for spirits, the weather was very unsettled, and poor Becky was home alone.  What could be better for a ghostly cheap thrill?

Yes, spirits can make the inhabitants of a house (even pets) feel very unnerved, even when they are not doing things like pushing down plaques.  Their best targets are those that are very sensitive.

Just as I was writing this, our calico cat Kallie, that was sitting on my lap, gazed up over my head and seemed to be observing things I can't see.  Then, she jumped down and ran onto another room.

That's okay.  In the next few days, I'm going to be consulting with a psychic to determine our best plan of action.  Greg and I had hoped that things were much better here, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Wish me luck. Stay tuned!

The Haunted Workplace

Welcome!

Battlefield with faint orbs and frosty-looking grass in the summer!

My husband Greg works at a city utility building (which will remain anonymous!) that is on a civil war battlefield which was the site of one of the bloodiest battles in the war.  He and his fellow workers have often had strange things happen while working at the water department filter plant.

Several times, Greg has seen something out of the corner of his eye, but when he looked around, nothing would be there!  Once, it was like a shadow moving along the floor.

One night, a worker at the plant said that when he entered one of the rooms, he found all of the utility certificates (that had been hanging on the wall) on the floor.

Another night, while in the break room, Greg and another guy he was working with, two different times, several days apart, heard the sound of a door latching.  No one else was in the building either time.  The guy with Greg said he was used to hearing noises like that.

As if all this weren't enough, a few times Greg and a co-worker heard voices, like a conversation going on.  It happened once when Greg was listening to the radio, and it happened to the co-worker when he was back-washing a filter.  Apparently the entities use these devices to help them manifest sounds.

It's not just sights and sounds, at the filter plant.  Greg said that a few times when he was outside at work at 3:00 AM that he noticed the smell of perfume in the dead of winter!

In addition, Greg said that there is constantly a problem with the instruments at the filter plant which are run by electricity.

Used to, Greg had to work many nights by himself.  He just tried to stay busy and concentrate on his job (which I'm sure he always does anyway!).

Of course, night is prime time for spirits, but the ghostly goings-on are not just limited to after dark, because on the day shift, several of the workers have heard a strange knocking sound on the wall.

Greg and these other guys are braver than I would be! They certainly do earn their money!

My First Paranormal Blog Post

Welcome to Spirit Photographs!

This is the very first blog post of my new blog, "Spirit Photographs." (I have another blog, "The Art of Positive Living," on Blogger.)

Upper Windows of a Haunted House, the Subject of a Future Blog Post

I'm writing a blog about the paranormal, (According to the online Thesaurus, "paranormal" means "supernatural,...ghostly, metaphysical, mysterious,...unearthly".) because I love delving into the unknown.  Even as a child, I was fascinated by things out of the ordinary.  I was even more intrigued when my little brother, Nick, took a picture with his inexpensive camera of a supernatural entity in the window of a historic old house in Southwest Virginia.  (Please see the 7/24/11 blog post, "June Tolliver House, Big Stone Gap, Virginia" on my other blog, "The Art of Positive Living" for more info.)

Years later, I discovered that not only my brother, but my husband and I, as well, had the unusual ability to take photographs of the paranormal.

In fact, I have written a book about our experiences which I plan to have published soon.  I'll let you know later when my book is published, hopefully, as both a paperback and an e-book.

On this blog, I'll discuss all types of paranormal subjects, and would welcome anything you, the reader, would like to share about the supernatural.  If you decide to e-mail any stories, etc., my e-mail address is spiritphotographs@gmail.com.  I'll list your first name and your city and state, along with your paranormal info, news, or tidbit.

Personal paranormal tidbit: My earliest recollection of the paranormal was when I was around three or four years old.  One night, I went into another room and started screaming.  My mother came running to see what was wrong, and I told her I had seen a hand.  I couldn't remember all the details, as I had been so frightened.  She tried to show me that it had been only a shadow, but I wasn't convinced!

These blog posts will be posted sometime during the day every Saturday.
